I grew up going to the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. When I became an adult, it was always a treat to still walk in the doors – some of my favorite memories are shooting Top 5 lists or an event with DoItIndy at the museum. Congrats. #BeUrban
I have a local Indy friend who recently called me and said that I had to be a part of this new conference. Amy P can be quite persuasive so I said OK without really understanding what was going on.
Amy introduced me to a fantastic person named Andy Murphy and I was set. This is gonna be BIG people. Across the Arts is a new writing conference to be held on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at the Carmel Palladium.
The website states, “A Gleeful literary celebration — Indiana’s finest filmmakers, best-selling NY Times authors, award-winning newspaper journalists, columnists, magazine writers and editors, publishers and noted musicians will join together in the “Writer’s Studio” in the magnificent Palladium Theater in Carmel, Indiana on July 20th. This accomplished cast of talent all LIVE in Indiana and are NATIONALLY recognized.”
The list of authors, media people, local celebrities and more is AMAZING. The hosts for the day will be Debby Knox, award-winning news anchor at WISH-TV, an affiliate of CBS; Tania Castroverde Moskalenko, President and CEO of the Center for the Performing Arts and Liz Brainard, First Lady of the City of Carmel.
Publishers, Filmmakers, book authors, personalities and a social media panel. I get the honor of chatting up how to best use social media with local online faves Amy Stark of Stark Reality Check and Elizabeth Musgrave of Gotta Go.
Get your event tickets HERE. More info on the Write Stuff Writers and Across the Arts 13 HERE. Make sure to connect to Write Stuff Writer Conferences on Facebook and use the hashtag #AcrossArts13 on Twitter.
My good friend, Shawn June (writer of the DoItIndy theme song) called me up a few weeks ago and told me about a new charity show. Bands 4 Boobies. He asked if I might be interested in being involved and helping spread the word and have the crew help emcee. I was completely sold on the idea when he asked. My mother (Barb) is a breast cancer survivor and then a decade later had another cancer battle. Thank goodness she beat the odds both times and is still with us. I will do this for her.
I chatted with Jason Oldham of Audio Hitmen (creator of show) and told him we were in. There will be TWO locations on Saturday, April 20, 2013 for Bands 4 Boobies. Kelly’s Pub on the west side of Indianapolis and Drifty’s Sports Pub on the south side of Indy. Jason will be emcee of Kelly’s Pub and the DoItIndy crew will be emcees of Drifty’s Pub! Fun starts at 7:30 p.m.
More info and band lineups online. Please like the Facebook page of Bands 4 Boobies and be informed. Thanks for all your help.
We had a fantastic time getting hot shaves at Red’s Classic Barber Shop and then drinking some Stiff Upper Lip (official beer of Movember Indy 2012) at Sun King Brewing Company on the 1st of the month. We truly do love Movember and growing our moustaches for men’s health and prostate cancer. Wild Bill of DoItIndy created a fantastic video that truly highlights the night and cause.
I was the 28th shave of the day to break the record…I got to ring the bell! Thank you so much Red’s. Please donate today at www.mobro.co/doitindy. Hope to see you out at a Movember event soon!
I really love dogs – I grew up with a dog and now I have my own beautiful girl, Nala. Last year we covered Mutt Strut with DoItIndy and walked Nala on the track of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Had a fun time.
SO…DoItIndy partnered with the humane society to give something back to YOU in 2012! We are now a proud sponsor of the event that gives back to the doggies in Indy – Mutt Strut!

I’m very proud to be a Hoosier. I’ve lived in Indiana, Ohio and Florida but have spent most of my life in our grand state. Hoosiers are cool, Hoosiers are talented and Hoosiers make some really cool stuff.
Indiana Artisan is just that – the best that Indiana has to offer. From their website (www.indianaartisan.org), “This collaborative organization brings together Indiana’s talented Artisans’ one-of-a-kind art and food creations – in stores and on trails crisscrossing the state. Their select work enriches the lives of Hoosiers and visitors.“
I think that says it all. For sure.
This weekend at the Expo Hall at the Indiana State Fairgrounds you will be able to buy art, food and drink from the best of the best. The 2nd Indiana Artisan Marketplace made the DoItIndy Top 5 urban events of the week – check out our video here (www.youtube.com/doitindy). Support local, especially in today’s day and age. Have fun and get your dose of the best of Indiana.

A new movie has hit the Indianapolis area – Video Stop. Local Adam Newell finished his second full-length feature film and debuted it last weekend among much fanfare! The movie was show at the IMAX movie theatre in downtown Indianapolis to a sold out crowd. Lots of laughs, decent acting (Lonnie Dean is my favorite character by far), and if you don’t know what NUVO is, you will after this movie.
My interviews of the writer/director Adam Newell and Andy Maraldo (Lonnie Dean) at www.doitindy.com‘s blog!
The Indianapolis based rock group, Borrow Tomorrow has a new full-length album out for the public. Too Far to Feel. We recently featured them in our DoItIndy Top 5 Urban Events of the Week!
This is one of my favorite times of the year – Devour Downtown. The local restaurant showcase happens every summer and winter to give Indianapolis a flavor of the best food in the urban city.
$30 gets you a GREAT meal at some of the best restaurants in Indianapolis. Even better – a few are 2 for $30 and available at lunch! DoItIndy is a proud sponsor for the second time of Devour Downtown Indianapolis! Doesn’t get any better than this…
I recently had the opportunity to be a judge of the Devour Downtown Signature Drink competition. Awesome. This was my second time to help choose what fine beverage you can try at every DD restaurant! Who wouldn’t want to do this, right? It was fun to try some fantastic mixes that the local bartenders came up with! Many thanks to Grey Goose Vodka, 1800 Tequilla and Canadian Club Whiskey for being the gracious drink sponsors this winter. All the drinks were comprised of one of the three spirits along with mixers. The final result=they all were delicious.
I don’t want to give away the winner just yet! But…my favorite is a very smooth Grey Goose drink that is PERFECT for the wintertime. I’m going to have another for sure.

Devour Downtown gives me the opportunity to visit some of the best restaurants that urban Indy has to offer (I normally would never be able to afford some of these too)! My list to date includes: Morton’s, Fogo de Chao, Palomino, 14 West, Smokehouse on Shelby, St. Elmo, The Oceanaire, Creation Cafe and Scotty’s Brewhouse. I’m already excited to try some new editions for this go-around! Remember – every winter and summer this culinary treat is around for two weeks. Here is a link to the Devour Downtown Winterfest 2012 menus: www.devourdowntown.org/winterfest/index.htm
Eat Up Indy! Be urban. Have fun…try something new. $30=a great time in the city. I guarantee you’ll eat well Indianapolis!

Every year of your life is interesting in my opinion, just some are much more noteworthy than others. Sitting back this evening and thinking about what direction my life has taken makes me think this was a VERY interesting year! I have lived a great life over the past 12 months and I am very thankful for what God has given to me. You never know what is going to happen, so try to make the most of every day!
Over the past year, I’ve been privileged to attend some of the absolute best events that Indianapolis offers. I thought it would be cool to post some of my favorite 2011 pictures. These are my memories from going out in the inner city of Indianapolis (inside the 465 Loop). Enjoy. Let me know what you think. 2012 will bring some new and exciting things! Stay urban and get out and DoItIndy!
