Bands 4 Boobies 2013

Give Back - come and party with us to live, local music.

Proud sponsor & emcee of the 2013 Bands 4 Boobies charity rock show.

My good friend, Shawn June (writer of the DoItIndy theme song) called me up a few weeks ago and told me about a new charity show. Bands 4 Boobies. He asked if I might be interested in being involved and helping spread the word and have the crew help emcee. I was completely sold on the idea when he asked. My mother (Barb) is a breast cancer survivor and then a decade later had another cancer battle. Thank goodness she beat the odds both times and is still with us. I will do this for her.

#MTFW at Roundpeg

Roundpeg_logo

I recently had the opportunity to chat social media and community events with Lorraine Ball of Roundpeg. Social Media is a complex tactic that can really make or break your event or community outing. The talk went to several local Indy organizations, pics, postings and more. We chatted up DoItIndy, Indy Fringe Theatre Festival and Movember Indy. Thanks again Lorraine and crew at Roundpeg.

Movember 1st, 2012 #MoIndy12

Reds has the best hot shaves around.

We had a fantastic time getting hot shaves at Red’s Classic Barber Shop and then drinking some Stiff Upper Lip (official beer of Movember Indy 2012) at Sun King Brewing Company on the 1st of the month. We truly do love Movember and growing our moustaches for men’s health and prostate cancer. Wild Bill of DoItIndy created a fantastic video that truly highlights the night and cause.
Big Ben gets shaved at Red's

I was the 28th shave of the day to break the record…I got to ring the bell! Thank you so much Red’s. Please donate today at www.mobro.co/doitindy. Hope to see you out at a Movember event soon!

Indiana Artisan Marketplace

I’m very proud to be a Hoosier. I’ve lived in Indiana, Ohio and Florida but have spent most of my life in our grand state. Hoosiers are cool, Hoosiers are talented and Hoosiers make some really cool stuff.

Indiana Artisan is just that – the best that Indiana has to offer. From their website (www.indianaartisan.org), “This collaborative organization brings together Indiana’s talented Artisans’ one-of-a-kind art and food creations – in stores and on trails crisscrossing the state. Their select work enriches the lives of Hoosiers and visitors.

Indiana Artisan - true and original Indiana art and products

I think that says it all. For sure.

This weekend at the Expo Hall at the Indiana State Fairgrounds you will be able to buy art, food and drink from the best of the best. The 2nd Indiana Artisan Marketplace made the DoItIndy Top 5 urban events of the week – check out our video here (www.youtube.com/doitindy). Support local, especially in today’s day and age. Have fun and get your dose of the best of Indiana.

Video Stop the movie

A new movie has hit the Indianapolis area – Video Stop. Local Adam Newell finished his second full-length feature film and debuted it last weekend among much fanfare! The movie was show at the IMAX movie theatre in downtown Indianapolis to a sold out crowd. Lots of laughs, decent acting (Lonnie Dean is my favorite character by far), and if you don’t know what NUVO is, you will after this movie.

My interviews of the writer/director Adam Newell and Andy Maraldo (Lonnie Dean) at www.doitindy.com‘s blog!

Devour Downtown Winter 2012!

This is one of my favorite times of the year – Devour Downtown. The local restaurant showcase happens every summer and winter to give Indianapolis a flavor of the best food in the urban city.
$30 gets you a GREAT meal at some of the best restaurants in Indianapolis. Even better – a few are 2 for $30 and available at lunch! DoItIndy is a proud sponsor for the second time of Devour Downtown Indianapolis! Doesn’t get any better than this…
www.DevourDowntown.org

Great seafood at Oceanaire

Director KC and I ate some wonderful food from The Oceanaire last August.

I recently had the opportunity to be a judge of the Devour Downtown Signature Drink competition. Awesome. This was my second time to help choose what fine beverage you can try at every DD restaurant! Who wouldn’t want to do this, right? It was fun to try some fantastic mixes that the local bartenders came up with! Many thanks to Grey Goose Vodka, 1800 Tequilla and Canadian Club Whiskey for being the gracious drink sponsors this winter. All the drinks were comprised of one of the three spirits along with mixers. The final result=they all were delicious.

I don’t want to give away the winner just yet! But…my favorite is a very smooth Grey Goose drink that is PERFECT for the wintertime. I’m going to have another for sure.

Big Ben takes his job of judging drinks very seriously!

Nothing but the best for the Signature Drink of Devour Downtown Winter 2012!

Devour Downtown gives me the opportunity to visit some of the best restaurants that urban Indy has to offer (I normally would never be able to afford some of these too)! My list to date includes: Morton’s, Fogo de Chao, Palomino, 14 West, Smokehouse on Shelby, St. Elmo, The Oceanaire, Creation Cafe and Scotty’s Brewhouse. I’m already excited to try some new editions for this go-around! Remember – every winter and summer this culinary treat is around for two weeks. Here is a link to the Devour Downtown Winterfest 2012 menus: www.devourdowntown.org/winterfest/index.htm

Nothing more fun than judging the signature drink competition

Thanks again to Devour Downtown and National Wine & Spirits for the great competition.

Eat Up Indy! Be urban. Have fun…try something new. $30=a great time in the city. I guarantee you’ll eat well Indianapolis!

2011 was a very interesting year…

Every year of your life is interesting in my opinion, just some are much more noteworthy than others. Sitting back this evening and thinking about what direction my life has taken makes me think this was a VERY interesting year! I have lived a great life over the past 12 months and I am very thankful for what God has given to me. You never know what is going to happen, so try to make the most of every day!

Over the past year, I’ve been privileged to attend some of the absolute best events that Indianapolis offers. I thought it would be cool to post some of my favorite 2011 pictures. These are my memories from going out in the inner city of Indianapolis (inside the 465 Loop). Enjoy. Let me know what you think. 2012 will bring some new and exciting things! Stay urban and get out and DoItIndy!

I got a very cool piece of art

The student art show featured works from the You Are Beautiful campaign. I won a piece that now sits in the DoItIndy studio. Very cool to see the student's work!

Always great food for $30

Devour Downtown - Happens every summer and winter. DoItIndy is now a proud sponsor of the event. Love great food for $30!

Always good to give back!

Got to experience more dogs in one place than ever before at Mutt Strutt 2011! My dog Nala was done by the end - but we walked for a good cause. Dogs!

I still can't believe that Si Greene's is haunted!

We did a paranormal investigation of Si Greene's Pub. Unreal! I still can't believe what we've found. AND...more to this story coming soon in 2011!

The best food in town

Soul Food Friday happens at the Madame Walker Theatre on Indiana Avenue. Amazing soul food from our city for a great price. This is a MUST if you have never experienced.

The best street art fair in the country

The Talbot Street Art Fair is the oldest street art fair in the United States. Amazing vendors locally and from across the country bring their art to Indianapolis.

The annual Woodruff Place Flea Market

The Woodruff Place Flea Market happens the first weekend of June every year. Amazing to see what people bring out to sale. Great food from vendors too!

The best mustache bunch in all of Indiana

Tolin, Producer Asa and I grew our mustaches for prostate cancer and men's health. The Movember Indy movement has really started to take off! Join us in 2012 as we grow our big mustaches again.

Brew Bracket blind taste testing of Indiana Microbrews

Proud sponsor of BrewBracket. A blind taste testing of Indiana Microbrews. Nothing better than that. Held twice each year - the next beer up is wheat!

Very proud of the world champions - Indianapolis ComedySportz

What a great time when ComedySportz Indianapolis won the ComedySportz World Championship! If you have never experienced one of their shows on Mass Ave - you have to TODAY!

The best local Indy music showcase in the city

Nothing better than SIx Bands 4 Six Bucks! This in my opinion is the best local music showcase that Indy has to offer (and it is cheap). DoItIndy will be the lead sponsor again coming up in March. I'm pumped to be the emcee one more time!

The best roller derby league in the WFTDA - Naptown Roller Girls

We are a sponsor of the 2011-12 Naptown Roller Girls season. AWESOME! This is some of the best entertainment/sports that this city has to offer. Fun for the whole family...sit in the suicide seat section (18 & over).

DoItIndy Top 5, Sept. 19-25, 2011 Can you say Oktoberfest?

We always take time each week to research our events and try to find different activities for each list. Well…sometimes the cool stuff just comes in abundance and that you will find with our No. 1 and No. 2 urban events. What day do you want to Oktoberfest? Friday night or Saturday day?

5. Zannadoo at the Rathskeller Biergarten
AWESOME! For anyone who has enjoyed a good cover band, having a beverage and just relaxing – this is for you. Zannadoo has been around Indianapolis for several years and play quite frequently at the Rathskeller. A great event for a fall evening.

Great band!

ZannaDoo at the Rathskeller LIVE!

4. Indy Jazz Orchestra at Garfield Park
Who doesn’t love a free concert…and a free concert in a park. Garfield Park is truly one of Indianapolis’ hidden treasures (old, big, awesome). If you have never visited the park off of Raymond Street on the south side of Indianapolis, you are missing out! Indy Parks does a great job of providing free concerts at different parks through the summer. Getting colder out there…so the free concerts will end soon.
Bring a picnic, relax, have fun.

3. Clash of the Tailgaters at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Sample great food, and help kick off festivities for the Taste of the NFL kickoff event. Indianapolis is hosting this 2012 SuperBowl and it is time to get the party started! Great food, music, Galo wine, Colts cheerleaders and FUN!
Stop by on Friday and give back to Gleaner’s Food Bank. It is food, the Colts and more!

2. Oktoberfest at Herron Morton Place
Probst! Seems like there are a lot of these festivals, but this is the NEW fest that benefits this wonderful historical neighborhood. Food, drinks and lots of cool history. The coolest part is that some of Indy’s best food trucks will be on hand for some tasty goodness.  Be on the look out for the lady from Historic Indianapolis, she might be around! History is cool…

1. Monument Circle Oktoberfest
This Friday the Columbia Club offers a new fundraiser for the Monument Circle Restoration Project. Food, brats, music by Polka Boy (you don’t want to miss his music) and of course BEER. Monument Circle is wonderful, we love the landmark and are happy to see the CC get in on some restoration help. And…did I say ELEPHANT EARS!!!! My favorite.
