Movember Indy

#MTFW at Roundpeg

I recently had the opportunity to chat social media and community events with Lorraine Ball of Roundpeg. Social Media is a complex tactic that can really make or break your event or community outing. The talk went to several local Indy organizations, pics, postings and more. We chatted up DoItIndy, Indy Fringe Theatre Festival and Movember Indy. Thanks again Lorraine and crew at Roundpeg.

Movember 1st, 2012 #MoIndy12

Reds has the best hot shaves around.

We had a fantastic time getting hot shaves at Red’s Classic Barber Shop and then drinking some Stiff Upper Lip (official beer of Movember Indy 2012) at Sun King Brewing Company on the 1st of the month. We truly do love Movember and growing our moustaches for men’s health and prostate cancer. Wild Bill of DoItIndy created a fantastic video that truly highlights the night and cause.
Big Ben gets shaved at Red's

I was the 28th shave of the day to break the record…I got to ring the bell! Thank you so much Red’s. Please donate today at www.mobro.co/doitindy. Hope to see you out at a Movember event soon!

Movember and my Moustache

Changing the face of men's health

Please join or donate to our team:

Movember is awesome. I found out about the charity last year and I’ve been hooked ever since. Through genetics that my father blessed me with, I have the ability to grow hair like an adolescent wookie, so my moustache is BIG. My dad is an inspiration to my moustache too, he rocked one for over 15 years. The picture below is my dad in 1978, what a leisure suit!

Doc Risinger rocks a great moustache

Last year DoItIndy (Tolin and I) raised $720 for the charity. THIS year we have the DoItIndy Urban Moustache Warriors and at this time have 16 members and counting! Nothing like growing your moustache and hanging out with Mo Bros and Mo Sistas. I invite you to click on the link and join our wonderful team today. NO running or walking, we just grow our moustaches for men’s health and prostate cancer. If you have any questions, please let me know.

The DoItIndy crew of Movember 2012

Director KC, Big Ben, Producer Asa and Tolin of DoItIndy

Throughout the month of Movember, the local committee (which I am lucky to be a part of) has planned several events for the Indy area! Please visit www.movemberindy.com for more information on the local movement, events, sponsors and more. You can also find Movember Indy on Facebook and Twitter. During the last two years the state of Indiana has raised $51,779.67 and the city of Indianapolis has raised $26,646.73, that is awesome for a young charity! Heading into the third year that Movember has been in the state, people are ready as ever and the movement is catching on. I can’t wait to see what happens in 2012. DoItIndy is also a proud sponsor of Movember Indy.

Hope to see you out soon for a Movember Indy event!

Moustaches seem to be catching on…

I leave you with these fine words from Ron Swanson or a.k.a. Nick Offerman. A true moustache warrior!

2011 was a very interesting year…

Every year of your life is interesting in my opinion, just some are much more noteworthy than others. Sitting back this evening and thinking about what direction my life has taken makes me think this was a VERY interesting year! I have lived a great life over the past 12 months and I am very thankful for what God has given to me. You never know what is going to happen, so try to make the most of every day!

Over the past year, I’ve been privileged to attend some of the absolute best events that Indianapolis offers. I thought it would be cool to post some of my favorite 2011 pictures. These are my memories from going out in the inner city of Indianapolis (inside the 465 Loop). Enjoy. Let me know what you think. 2012 will bring some new and exciting things! Stay urban and get out and DoItIndy!

I got a very cool piece of art

The student art show featured works from the You Are Beautiful campaign. I won a piece that now sits in the DoItIndy studio. Very cool to see the student's work!

Always great food for $30

Devour Downtown - Happens every summer and winter. DoItIndy is now a proud sponsor of the event. Love great food for $30!

Always good to give back!

Got to experience more dogs in one place than ever before at Mutt Strutt 2011! My dog Nala was done by the end - but we walked for a good cause. Dogs!

I still can't believe that Si Greene's is haunted!

We did a paranormal investigation of Si Greene's Pub. Unreal! I still can't believe what we've found. AND...more to this story coming soon in 2011!

The best food in town

Soul Food Friday happens at the Madame Walker Theatre on Indiana Avenue. Amazing soul food from our city for a great price. This is a MUST if you have never experienced.

The best street art fair in the country

The Talbot Street Art Fair is the oldest street art fair in the United States. Amazing vendors locally and from across the country bring their art to Indianapolis.

The annual Woodruff Place Flea Market

The Woodruff Place Flea Market happens the first weekend of June every year. Amazing to see what people bring out to sale. Great food from vendors too!

The best mustache bunch in all of Indiana

Tolin, Producer Asa and I grew our mustaches for prostate cancer and men's health. The Movember Indy movement has really started to take off! Join us in 2012 as we grow our big mustaches again.

Brew Bracket blind taste testing of Indiana Microbrews

Proud sponsor of BrewBracket. A blind taste testing of Indiana Microbrews. Nothing better than that. Held twice each year - the next beer up is wheat!

Very proud of the world champions - Indianapolis ComedySportz

What a great time when ComedySportz Indianapolis won the ComedySportz World Championship! If you have never experienced one of their shows on Mass Ave - you have to TODAY!

The best local Indy music showcase in the city

Nothing better than SIx Bands 4 Six Bucks! This in my opinion is the best local music showcase that Indy has to offer (and it is cheap). DoItIndy will be the lead sponsor again coming up in March. I'm pumped to be the emcee one more time!

The best roller derby league in the WFTDA - Naptown Roller Girls

We are a sponsor of the 2011-12 Naptown Roller Girls season. AWESOME! This is some of the best entertainment/sports that this city has to offer. Fun for the whole family...sit in the suicide seat section (18 & over).

Goodbye to Movember and my mustache for 2011!

KC, Ben, Asa, Scott

The DoItIndy crew was out shooting pics and video. More to come soon!

What a wild 12 weeks it was with a mustache! I never thought it would bring as many discussions, looks and laughs. Sporting a mustache in 2011 just isn’t the normal thing to do. Especially a very long mustache as the one I had grown. I am very happy to say that we raised a total of $635 for the Movember charity. I had a great time wearing a mustache. And…I kinda miss it.
Movember is a worldwide charity that raises money for prostate cancer research and the LIVESTRONG Foundation. http://www.movember.com I would like to thank everyone who donated – it means very much to me and the rest of the DoItIndy crew. Tolin, myself and Producer Asa all three grew our mustaches out for the month.

Lots of good Movember Mustaches

Thank you all. This has become such a personal effort to me and every dollar counts. No donation is too small. We will cure prostate cancer.
A very in depth and informative blog post on growing a mustache in 2011 will be coming. I wanted to wait until the month of Movember is over until I wrote my deepest Mo’ thoughts.

Movember Shave video – Red’s Classic Barber Shop hot shave

I kept this until the middle of the month because it was very cool. Enjoy the video of Rufus giving me my first hot shave. I did this at Red’s Classic Barber Shop (www.redsclassicbarbershop.com) on Movember 1st to prep for the  evening’s kickoff party. The dudes also showed me how to properly groom and wax my mustache. I’m a customer now.

Movember Mustache & Red’s Classic Barbershop Shave: Movember 3, 2011

Raising Money for Movember www.mobro.co/doitindy

A trimmed mustache after visiting Red's Classic Barber Shop on Movember 1st! http://www.mobro.co/doitindy

I am a fan of my new trimmed mustache after my visit to Red’s Classic Barber Shop in downtown Indianapolis. I started growing my mustache early to have a “visual aid” when we talked to people and help promote the charity this month. My stache was big and out of control – it needed a trim. I had heard of Red’s before and I knew that day the cool guys from Sun King Brewing were getting trimmed up for the month too. I figured it was worth a try and I had been growing my cool stache for too long and I needed help in figuring out how to trim the walrus and still look good. So, I didn’t shave for a few days in anticipation of this new adventure.

The face is lathered up

Ready for my shave after the second hot lather was applied. Nothing like a straight edge razor!

When I walked in a couple of barber’s were sitting at the lounge area and greeted me in a very cool old way with a grunt. I thought this was awesome, and it kinda took me by surprise. The front desk clerk was a very charming lady (Candi) who helped me out right away and handed me over to Rufus. This is where the fun began. First…picture an early 1900’s barbershop this is glistening white/black tiles with red chairs that are highlighted with bronze and steel up and down. Barber’s are dressed sharp in tie/vest and the classic Fedora. I’m a HUGE fan of the Fedora and can be found wearing one quite often. You get the picture…it is just plain cool. Many thanks to Candi for being a great assistant and snapping the photos of me in the chair.

Ready to have the best shave of my life!

Rufus starting my old fashioned shave

Rufus laid me down in the old barbershop chair and gave me a  hot lather, hot towel, hot lather, hot towel, shave, cold towel and then a great after shave balm. My face felt good! I was there for about 45 minutes and felt as if I was the king of that chair and Red’s. Another barber came over at the end and was giving me mustache grooming tips and ways to use the wax and twist it! The atmosphere was cool, the staff was very welcoming and friendly, and my shave was the best I have ever had. I’m a hairy Wookie too…I have to shave on a daily basis.

A happy face

My face felt SMOOOOTH. The best shave I have ever had.

Why am I doing this? For Movember!!!! Please help me and DoItIndy raise funds for prostate cancer research and men’s health in the state of Indiana and beyond! Our Mo’Space page: www.mobro.co/doitindy. Any help you can give is appreciated. This is the first charity that my show is backing and sponsoring to promote – I haven’t been growing my mustache for no reason folks?! I get funny look and it makes it hard to talk to girls. For real. I have heard more times in the past few weeks that I look like a 1. Creeper/Molester or 2. A 70’s-80’s porn star type. I’m doing it all for charity! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT.
