A Drink with Ben & Steve: Google + Hangout

Social Media and Google + Hangout
Ben and Steve will chat social media, the drink of the week and life on the 30 minute weekly webcast.

A few weeks ago a friend of mine, Steve Neville, of Intelligent Designs Media said we should chat social media more. We geek out. I completely agreed as I’m a social media junkie and can talk platforms and strategies all the time. Yes, this conversation was had while drinking a beer.

SO…a Google + Hangout was thought up. There are a lot of different podcasts about social media, but none focus on being a gentleman, having a gentleman’s beverage and social media. This week we chat #Vine – the new web six second video platform to use with Twitter.

I hope that you will join us to chat social media and just have some fun. The link to the Google + Hangout will be posted around 7:10-7:15 on Thursday evening via our Twitter handles. We will also take live questions and chat from Twitter – please use the hashtag #DrinkWBS to chime in and say hi!

I got engaged to Slick LaRoo

Big Ben loves Slick LaRoo.
Both sides of the family got to watch the engagement LIVE at Fox 59 WXIN.

Wow. I am 35 years old and I am in love. On Tuesday, 2/5/13 I asked Slick LaRoo (a.k.a. Kelly Campbell) to marry me. Not just any proposal, a LIVE proposal on Fox 59 WXIN after our weekly DoItIndy Kid’s segment. I was confident of a yes, but I still had the inside jitters.

I won’t forget the day that @IndyVal, DoItIndy reporter told me she had a Twitter friend (@SlickLaRoo) I needed to meet. I really didn’t think much of it at the time. AND…things didn’t work out exactly like a regular relationship either… Kelly became a friend in October 2011, reporter for DoItIndy after that and we finally fell in love in the summer of 2012. I’m excited, a little anxious, scared and I want to be an amazing person for the woman I will wed very soon.

Many adventures will come in the future, and I can’t wait to share them with the love of my life.

If you would like to chat the wedding with us, please use the Twitter hashtag #WedBK.

Devour Downtown Winterfest 2013

#Devour13 is the BEST food showcase in Indianapolis.
Shooting a video promo for The Weber Grille restaurant in downtown Indianapolis.

I love food. I love Devour Downtown.

That said. Devour Downtown Winterfest 2013 has started in Indianapolis. From Monday, January 21 to Sunday, February 3, 2013 you can eat at some of the BEST restaurants our great city has to offer.

DoItIndy has come on board to sponsor for their fourth festival! Over the last three years I have had the opportunity to meet some amazing chefs and local talent in the Indianapolis area. I definitely love to eat on the local side and find the hidden gems of Indianapolis. Make sure to follow DoItIndy food reporters: Dork with a Fork and EatUrban as you look for your favorite places to eat in downtown Indy.

#MTFW at Roundpeg

I recently had the opportunity to chat social media and community events with Lorraine Ball of Roundpeg. Social Media is a complex tactic that can really make or break your event or community outing. The talk went to several local Indy organizations, pics, postings and more. We chatted up DoItIndy, Indy Fringe Theatre Festival and Movember Indy. Thanks again Lorraine and crew at Roundpeg.

I had to do a repost of the blog that Slick LaRoo wrote me for my 35th Birthday. I love you very much. Thank you for the great list. 😉

In honor of Mr. Benjamen Risinger’s 35th birthday, I am here to share with you 35 (of the countless) reasons I love him.

It’s hard to describe in words how much I love this man, but this is a start. In no particular order…

1. His toy collection is bigger than my shoe collection.

2. He can grow a fine mustache.

3. His enthusiasm for the little things is rare and contagious.

4. His love of Chuck Taylors mirrors mine.

5. His hardworking spirit.

6. His love of his family is apparent and strong.

7. He was cuffing his jeans before the hipsters were cuffing their jeans.

8. He grills a mean steak.

9. He picks up after me.

10. He surprises me with thoughtful gifts (“Here’s a lava lamp for your desk at work…because flowers die”).

11. His smile.

12. His love of his dog Nala, whom he’s allowed…

Movember 1st, 2012 #MoIndy12

Reds has the best hot shaves around.

We had a fantastic time getting hot shaves at Red’s Classic Barber Shop and then drinking some Stiff Upper Lip (official beer of Movember Indy 2012) at Sun King Brewing Company on the 1st of the month. We truly do love Movember and growing our moustaches for men’s health and prostate cancer. Wild Bill of DoItIndy created a fantastic video that truly highlights the night and cause.
Big Ben gets shaved at Red's

I was the 28th shave of the day to break the record…I got to ring the bell! Thank you so much Red’s. Please donate today at www.mobro.co/doitindy. Hope to see you out at a Movember event soon!

Movember is awesome. I found out about the charity last year and I’ve been hooked ever since. Through genetics that my father blessed me with, I have the ability to grow hair like an adolescent wookie, so my moustache is BIG. My dad is an inspiration to my moustache too, he rocked one for over 15 years. The picture below is my dad in 1978, what a leisure suit!

Doc Risinger rocks a great moustache

Last year DoItIndy (Tolin and I) raised $720 for the charity. THIS year we have the DoItIndy Urban Moustache Warriors and at this time have 16 members and counting! Nothing like growing your moustache and hanging out with Mo Bros and Mo Sistas. I invite you to click on the link and join our wonderful team today. NO running or walking, we just grow our moustaches for men’s health and prostate cancer. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Throughout the month of Movember, the local committee (which I am lucky to be a part of) has planned several events for the Indy area! Please visit www.movemberindy.com for more information on the local movement, events, sponsors and more. You can also find Movember Indy on Facebook and Twitter. During the last two years the state of Indiana has raised $51,779.67 and the city of Indianapolis has raised $26,646.73, that is awesome for a young charity! Heading into the third year that Movember has been in the state, people are ready as ever and the movement is catching on. I can’t wait to see what happens in 2012. DoItIndy is also a proud sponsor of Movember Indy.

Hope to see you out soon for a Movember Indy event!

Moustaches seem to be catching on…

I leave you with these fine words from Ron Swanson or a.k.a. Nick Offerman. A true moustache warrior!

Pokemon Championships in Indianapolis

Shooting an interview for DoItIndy

When I was in college…yes I played Pokemon a little. I am a true fan-boy geek at heart. The game was OK, but I never really got into it. BUT – the cartoon was always cool to me. PIKACHU!!!!!

Check it out – I got to interview the world wide marketing manager, a player of the card game and PIKACHU!
